A390

Bread and Butter is a Dolby stereo, two-sides-of-the-street treat in the heart of Truro. Kate and Charlie love their business, and their staff - who high five each other in the street while popping back and forth - clearly love working there, too. There's always time for a hello between the frothing of milk and the scooping of super salads into compostable containers.

The deli, bakery and take-out is for people in a hurry. It's stocked with crunchy salads, generously stuffed sourdough sarnies and delicious cakes to go. The coffee is roasted locally by Origin in Porthleven, and the fresh bread comes from hand-picked local bakeries. Cross the narrow street to find the plant-packed café. The garden exudes bleached coastal chic and is pocked with beach-hut-esque pods in which to meet friends over flat whites; on cooler days, you can hunker down in the cosy dining room upstairs (online booking recommended for both).

Breakfast on famously fluffy American pancakes or trust the mushroom and miso pastry with smoky beans to set you up for an afternoon adventure.
