'It's fresh and exciting because it's not posh' said Masterchef judge William Sitwell, naming this bistro among his top 15 favourite UK restaurants.
The Bothy started life as a wee coffee shop in this remote village on the windswept Moray coast - an area known for dolphin-spotting. It's now a licensed bistro whose chef works wonders with offerings from the nearby seas and hills. Owner Ruth likes to know where things are caught or picked, and personally-chosen Catalonian wines and Andalucian olives complement the local flavours. Driftwood décor suits this coastal address, which is a failsafe stop-off if seeking artisan coffee and still-warm goodies from the in-house bakery.
Smoked Shetland mussels compete with fresh-landed Hopeman langoustines in season, with game from the Spey valley and treats from the Connage Highland Dairy on the menu. Eat your fill then walk it off along the Moray Coast Trail. The courtyard is dog-friendly.
