Haverfordwest is Pembrokeshire's ancient county town. It's a handy journey breaker before pointing north to Fishguard harbour, west into the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park or south to Milford Haven. The UK's largest energy port, Milford was referred to by Admiral Nelson as the second best natural harbour in the world (which was his favourite, one wonders).
On a narrow road above town is the not-for-profit coffee shop Get The Boys a Lift. It's named after the fundraising efforts of its founders, who used to hitchhike around the UK to raise money and awareness for the free mental health support they provide. Their drop-in service is in the coffee shop (known as 'Our Place') and the team also runs a coffee van in Freshwater West. Both are funded by coffee, community and clothing: you can buy a cap or T-shirt online or in person. If racing for a ferry, order ahead for a click-and-collect iced black, wake-up espresso or creamy mocha. The staff are kind and talkative, the cakes optional but recommended and there's a car park 30 seconds away.
