M5

The village of Shirehampton hugs the river Avon near Junction 18 of the M5. Just off the green is Ruby Jeans, a family-owned restaurant with a small but perfectly formed deli.

Chefs and owners Mark and Liv quickly outgrew their original venue and upsized into this slick new space. They still tick the coffee and cake box but now have more indoor and outdoor seating, with breathing space for their imaginative menus to flourish.

The brunch stacks pack a meaty (or vegan) punch, paprika-spiced Ottoman eggs come with harissa and sourdough and the corn fritters with lime and chilli vegan mayo are a small-plate favourite. Grab a panini or sandwich during the day. With smoked goats' cheese and butternut squash gnocchi and low'n'slow smoked beef cheek on the evening menu - plus meat and plant-based burgers to die for - any time of day is the right time to visit. Save space for the burnt Basque-styled cheesecake and pick up some essentials for the journey on.
