On our roving research trip around Wales we stumbled across the Little Valley Bakery (and its partner café, Hoogah, just around the corner) one bleary-eyed morning. Nibbling at the baker's choice, a cherry and pistachio tart, genuinely kept us fuelled all day.

This bakery is run with passion and truly lives up to its 'artisanal' description. Everything from the cinnamon buns and raspberry-vanilla pastries to the ham and mozzarella focaccia, leek and potato pasties and Al Taglio pizza slices will have you reaching for your 'phone to capture such patisserie perfection in pictures.

As well as bread to Hoogah, the team supplies sweet and savoury goodies to discerning venues across Swansea and the Gower, which is on the doorstep if you seek somewhere to stroll or surf. (Little Valley's second bakery, in Parkmill, is the place to get provisions ready for a picnic in Three Cliffs Bay.) If you love bread made with organic flour and to a traditional recipe, you know where to come: down this little alley in Swansea.
