Ironbridge Gorge, near Telford, is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its role in the Industrial Revolution. Today, this valley of invention has flourishing independent shops, wonderful buildings and - of course - the Iron Bridge itself.
The Furnace Kitchen is in the gorge's historic town of Coalbrookdale. It's a contemporary space in which to quaff a barista coffee or top up the energy levels after a morning's hardcore cultural intake. What would the miners have made of the Shropshire smoked sausage, high-pedigree meat from Strawberry Fields Farm or a locally-smoked bacon breakfast bun? Would they have enjoyed the Shropshire Moo pizza (with local blue cheese), pecan-topped pancakes or a freshly baked cake? We think yes...with a bottle from Hobsons local brewery to round things off.
This heritage-packed area has several fascinating museums to explore, such as The Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, the Jackfield Tile Museum and the child-friendly and interactive Enginuity.
