Slav and Daniela have run their well-liked café in this striking building - on the corner of Bank and Irish streets - since 2018. They do the little things that make small businesses stand out, such as remembering your name and producing surprise birthday cakes if they get wind of the date and you happen to stop by.
The pair cut their culinary teeth on river cruises that criss-crossed Germany and France, with Slav as chef and Daniela as front of house. The Corner has a large garden, with its own heat and shade to cope with the vagaries of the weather. Sit inside or out to enjoy a local burger, Scottish scallops, a vegan special or a dish from the international menu (from Asian to Mexican and back home to the Balmoral Chicken). If your journey stops in Dumfries, the cocktails are particularly good.
The café is moments from the photogenic Devorgilla Bridge; cross it en route to the Robert Burns Centre or Dumfries Museum. Takeaway and collection are available.
