M6

The Canal Quarter just east of central Lancaster is seeing some serious and ambitious cultural regeneration, with new ideas and public spaces starting to take shape. Ahead of the game on the ambition front (they set up shop here in 2019) is The Quarterhouse: an independent restaurant and bar owned and run by two talented local chefs.

James and Alan's menus celebrate the spoils of the region, with appetizing breakfasts ranging from a classic full Lancashire to the house special 'seafood benedict' piled with king scallops and crevettes. To keep it liquid, brunch mocktails, cocktails and locally roasted coffee add a touch of exotica.

In the evening, local ingredients are assembled into modern British small plates: meat and fish arrive straight from the Port of Lancaster Smokehouse; organic vegetables come from The Plot cooperative; and fresh bread is baked by Lovingly Artisan. To further promote local feasting and flavours, the duo's deli will open in 2023.
