M5

The evocatively named Lost Kitchen is a gift for seekers of the unusual. Housed in a traditional linhay and former cider barn, you'll find this wood-fired restaurant in a distinctly Devonian setting near Tiverton, a town known for its castle, pannier market and the many bridges over the Exe.

The vibe here is rustic and the friendly team share a passion for reconnecting people with food, community and the environment. Owners George and Aurora only use high-welfare milk and eggs, free-range meat, sustainable seafood and salad from an organically principled land co-op in Devon. Tables are crafted from the estate's fallen trees and the feasting barn has memorable views and a herb-scented terrace garden with seasonal planters. Cider is home-pressed and coffee lovers will enjoy the single-origin Roastworks beans.

Try to time your visit with a seasonal wood-fired feast or a 'Lost in the Smoke' BBQ. Garden lovers should tack on a trip to see the outstanding botanical collections at Knightshayes Court (NT) nearby.
