Prepare to marvel at the ingenious horticultural tesselation at RHS Garden Bridgewater, the Royal Horticultural Society's newest garden (opened in May 2021). Created on the site of Salford's Worsley New Hall, this heritage landscape now fuses history with horticulture and is one of Europe's largest gardening projects at over 150 acres. It has places to learn, stroll and play, it has gardens within gardens. Memorable spots include the Weston Walled Garden and the Chinese Streamside Garden, there are also dedicated Woodland Play, Wellbeing and Learning gardens.
There is of course a Kitchen Garden, which leads us neatly onto the food for hungry horticulturalists. Head to the Stables Café in the garden for hot, crisp-crusted pizzas, or to the free-to-enter Bridgewater Café - in the Welcome Building overlooking Victoria Meadow - for a seasonally-inspired lunch packed with garden-grown and local produce.
