Matai and Rachael are living their very own ice-cream dream in one of Devon's prime foodie towns, Ashburton. You're invited to join them on their frozen journey by popping in for a scoop, a popsicle, a takeaway tub of handcrafted, artisanal ice cream or a beautifully finished coffee.
Matai is a New Zealander but has come back to carry on the traditions of his Leeds-born grandfather, Mr Creamo, a nostalgic cameo of whom adorns the shop window. Today, the team makes everything fresh on site with Riverford Farm organic milk and cream and a kaleidoscopic menu of colourful treats for both vegan and dairy lovers. Opt for a cone full of honeycomb and chilli, marmalade on toast or spiced kumquat ice cream or go for a blackcurrant and liquorice lolly instead. The sorbet smorgasbord includes pear and Riesling or exotic cardamom and blackberry varieties.
There are take-home treats like banana, rum and butterscotch pudding and, on Saturdays only, desserts and petal-topped pastries join the list.
