M27

Stumbling across Furzey Gardens you really do feel like Mary in The Secret Garden. There's awe, there's delight... and there's a conflicting desire both to tell everyone at once and to keep this wonderful discovery all to yourself.

There are a play area and a serene lake, with myriad fairy doors scattered across the tranquil woodland. The thatched tea-room's terrace offers a slice of calm after such explorations. Enjoy a homemade cake or snack or ask about a picnic hamper - packed with New Forest Marque favourites - to unfold out in the woodland wilds.

The garden was first planted by the pioneering Dalrymple family. Discover the histories of its rare-breed plant hunters and don't miss the recreated RHS Chelsea show garden (there are plants for sale if you'd like to take a little bit of 'the Forest' home). The gardens are ticketed but the café is free to enjoy. For events and celebration bookings, contact the Minstead Trust directly.
