From the M5, Fordmore Farm is well-placed for those delving east into the Blackdown Hills or west into the market town of Cullompton, with its working paper and textile mills. The farm converted to organic methods 30 years ago and when we heard their raison d'être - for people to rethink their relationship with food - we knew we'd get on.
The Farm Shop Café's chef has some great products to play with. The meat is traceable, the eggs organic and the coffee roasted in nearby Willand. The 'Hangover Cure' breakfast takes some eating, there are toasted teacakes and traybakes for sweet teeth, and seasonal menus feature salads, sandwiches, burgers and 'big eats' (the Moroccan lamb special is delish).
At this family-friendly one-stop shop, the butcher can advise on local Longhorn beef, the deli and cheese counters heave with regional flavours and many veggies are home-grown. Browse local gifts or set the children free to meet the on-site animals or hit the play park with its chunky wooden tractor, as rural views unfurl all around.
