The Courtyard Craft Centre is a lovely pop-in near Poole, brimming with interesting folk and fares including an ethical soap maker, a potter, an artisan woodworker and a chocolatier.

Come for the crafts then segue into the chic Cowshed. This local-food loving cafe keeps the arty hub and its visitors fuelled with caffeine - the bespoke house blend is from local roastery, Carve Coffee - along with freshly-baked cakes, slices and savouries.

The triple-stacked pancakes need a bit of a run up if you're to conquer them effectively and the cream teas are a fruity dollop of Dorset delight. Lunch can be enjoyed at a bright enamel table in the courtyard or join the homely hubbub inside. House recipes are steeped in family secrets; marvel at the mackerel pate or pile a flatbread high with fresh falafel.
