The Stables at Kirklevington is a new, purpose-built bistro at Town End Farm's rural riding centre. With views directly into the main equine arena, horsey fans might find it hard to concentrate on their fresh-brewed tea or Illy coffee and homemade cake. Perhaps a wee wager as to which horse might knock a bar off first might be in order?

Stornoway Black Pudding is a key ingredient of the Shetland Full Breakfast; early risers can also tuck into a hearty Riverside sausage sandwich. For a light lunch, cheese or fruit scones and teacakes are oven-fresh, or opt for a twice-baked gruyère soufflé, hot smoked haddock risotto or Stables burger. Check ahead if hoping to join the fray on a popular fish and chip Friday or a Parma ham or rocket-topped pizza night. Tables are in demand.

A diversion for chef Matty (well known locally for his highly regarded deli), the bistro is going great guns as he's truly hit the ground - well, galloping.
