Sometimes in life you take a risk...and it pays off. That's exactly what happened for Kate and her chef husband, Trevor, who launched this 'quiet little retirement project' on the edge of the North York Moors National Park in March 2022. It quickly became a runaway success and now delights drop-in drivers and walkers on the 110-mile Cleveland Way, one of the UK's National Trails.

Enjoy amazing bakes and lunches inside or out on the flower-surrounded terrace in this pretty little village. There are the usual savoury suspects from soups to sandwiches plus house-favourite tartines - 'posh stuff on toast' according to Kate. The sourdough loaves are from No. 8 Bakehouse and the meat is from Kitson's the Yorkshire Butcher. The couple are dog fans - just don't feed their own, Snoopy. Head east onto the moorland plateau of the dale-dissected North York Moors or stretch your legs on the 2.5km circular walk around Cod Beck Reservoir, a Site of Special Scientific Interest just north of the village.
