Swing off the M6 and into the Cheshire countryside to find the Ginger and Pickles tea-room at Lowe’s Farm Shop. It follows the same ethos as its sister venues: fresh food, generous portions and smiley service. Everything is made from scratch, from roast ham to bread and pastries. Most suppliers are within 15 miles, once the farm larder itself is exhausted.
For a fuelling breakfast, try a halloumi stack with spinach or a stuffed burrito. On fine days, feast on an afternoon tea or teetering slice of cake in the terrace sunshine then meet the farm animals, stock up in the farm shop (with a butcher and visiting fishmonger among the home-grown veggies) or browse the gift shop, where non-drivers might like to sample a local beer or gin.
The Cheshire-roasted coffee is good and strong to power your onward journey. Sunday's popular roasts are worth the detour and are available ‘until they run out’. Short on time? Order ahead online and your selections will be ready for you to grab and go.
