A702

- - - Temporarily closed (winter/ early 2024) and reopening with new owners and in a different (but still wonderful) guise soon. Please check ahead if planning a visit, thank you. - - -

The Big Red Barn is a friendly and homely place at which to pull up. With a wind turbine, biomass boiler fed with fallen timber from their own wood and composting on site, it's sustainably run by Rob and Vanessa who love sharing their produce and 80 acres of woodland with visitors.

The shifting crops of the grower's year flourish in raised beds and 'polycrubs' - a Shetland inspired polytunnel-greenhouse hybrid - and The Little Red Pie Shed offers take-away treats in summer.

Daily specials come with home-spun herbs and salads, and the golden, short-crust savouries and sumptuous bakes are all made 'in barn'. Perfectly iced cakes are sprinkled with petals and the celebrated pies and sausage rolls are memorable. Take a seat inside or out to enjoy a single-origin coffee with organic milk, or let loose on the leaf tea. The home-smoked fish and daisy-fresh wheaten bread make the perfect pair.

Take a woodland wander before heading on, ideally with a jar of their own jam or chutney.
