When you’ve had enough of the tailbacks, few things will cheer you up more than a field full of woolly-faced alpacas. The family have been rearing alpacas here since 2005, specialising in the Huacaya variety for their colourful wool, on display in creative patterns in the shop. The herd has grown from four to more than 90, and so has the farm business, with the most recent addition – a café and visitor centre in funky converted shipping containers.
Large windows onto the fields mean you can watch the animals gambolling around (or even gazing in) while you tuck into toasted paninis, bacon rolls, and generous slices of cake. The coffee is very good, endorsed by even the strictest coffee snobs, and for a small fee you can wander the Alpaca Trail. A restorative stop.
