The Village Café is a new addition to the Bidford high street, and has been an instant hit with the locals. The café may be new but the ethos is traditional: decent food and friendly service, and it regularly teems with families and individuals making the most of Ingrid’s home cooking as well as freshly-baked delights from Pudding Lane Cakes.
The kitchen is teeny so there’s little in the way of hot food, but plenty of toasted sandwiches, pies, pastries and flapjacks to tempt you instead. Outdoor Pig Company bacon and sausage baps are served till noon. The coffee is smooth and rich and the small courtyard garden at the rear will warm you up on sunny days.
Before you hit the road again, have a look for ‘Shakespeare’s tree’ in the heart of the village. It’s alleged that Shakespeare slept off a drinking contest under its boughs!
