A huge bar made from a single piece of Douglas fir and propped on granite blocks makes a dramatic statement at the entrance of the Crafty Distillery in Galloway. It’s home to Hills and Harbour gin, an award winner flavoured with seaweed from the coast and pine needles from the forest. This commitment to regional flavours extends to the products available in the shop and bar at the visitor centre.

Visitors are invited to choose from the goodies in the well-stocked shop – including local cheeses – making this a great place to replenish your snack quota if heading for a ferry across to Northern Ireland.

While you’re stopped, consider the tour (for an entertaining insight into the team’s gin-creating journey and then pop into Wigtown itself, officially named Scotland’s National Book Town, with some 20 shops to browse.
