Walkers of the Hadrian’s Wall path often miss this little gem of a café as they track the Tyne just below Main Road, and we feel sorry for them as this is blissful respite from the trail, whether you’re on foot
or wheel.
Suzanne took over the honey-stoned café a few years ago and has been treating the village to her fabulous cooking ever since. Once she’s stocked the counter with an array of teetering cakes, scones and meringues, she turns her attention to sending hearty plates of brunch, soups, sandwiches and cream teas out to eager tables. The interior is simple, with some hints of the building’s history in the rugged beams and bare stone walls, but it’s the warm, chatty service that sets this café apart.
It’s popular with the locals too, so you’re as likely to sit alongside with mums after their yoga class as retirees catching up over a coffee.
