In the historic market town of Howden, the Dickensian windows of That Tea Room set the scene for this traditional tea shop. This is a fascinating building whose internal windows and pillars hint at a long history of trade; it’s the tantalising homemade cakes and delicious food that draw the crowds today.
New owners Sam and Jo had a 'now or never' moment while working at the tea-room, deciding to buy it when the former owner wanted to sell. Their chalkboard features diverse and often hearty specials, from sweet chilli chicken and vegetable flatbreads to goats’ cheese bruschetta or salmon and dill fishcakes. The sharing platters and afternoon teas are renowned and our favourite space to enjoy them in is the teapot room, in which hundreds of china pots dangle from the ceiling.
Howden's history stretches back to King Edgar and William the Conqueror. Go for a wander to see the mighty ruins of the once-famous Minster or to follow the intriguing airship trail.
