The Village Green, an independent, family-focused coffee shop, is the heart of Burwell. Whether you want to send some emails, drink a coffee or meet with friends, you're almost seduced to pop in. The décor is stylish with funky art against white metro tiles, tan leather chairs and industrial-chic lighting. Seats near large street-facing windows are the perfect spot for people-watching: a relic from the building’s former - and less edifying - life as an estate agency.
The kitchen is teeny tiny so food is largely light, but the menu is tasty and changes often. Expect anything from locally-made cakes (pick a gluten-free favourite) to fresh toasties or sausage rolls made with famed Newmarket sausage meat. Coffee is the real focus with beans from Ely roastery The Brew Project; their flat whites are excellent. On fine days, soak up village life at a pavement table or get your caffeine kick prior to a culture infusion at the National Trust's Anglesey Abbey down the road.
