Abigail certainly has an eye for good design, from beautiful homewares to magazine-worthy plates of food. In a unique but entrepreneurial set-up, she’s got two shop fronts on Ingastone’s high street, one stocking a broad range of enviable lamps and décor for your home, and the other a deli keeping ravenous shoppers well-fed.

The narrow, beamed café leads back to polka-dotted tables, though be prepared to takeaway as it’s hugely popular. Service is friendly, amid the hubbub of regulars, and dishes are wholesome, generous and always homemade: specials might include a heritage tomato and rocket salad or roasted vegetable and ricotta frittata.

If you’re in the mood to explore, Mountnessing Windmill has been fully restored and is a unique landmark, and Kelvedon Hatch, the cold-war era secret nuclear bunker, is up the road.
