Watlington is the sort of town that tourists travel to see: a vision of handsome brick buildings, thatched cottages and traditional shop fronts. The Granary stands at the heart of village life and is a lively hub for locals and visitors alike.
It originally opened as a cheese shop in 1985, but such was its popularity that it moved up the road to sprawl out, later adopting the old bank next door too. People-watchers will love the window seats at
the wide breakfast bar, which looks onto the high street, while sofas invite a comfortable rest if you’re road weary.
Food is all freshly prepared and changes with the seasons. Specials rotate regularly so there’s always something new to try, such as a Mediterranean platter or duck pâté with sourdough.
The Granary’s deli is a few doors up and still has a strong cheese focus but also stocks bread, olives, cured meats, conserves and other deli goodies. That’s the car snacks sorted.
