M5

The A4019 from the M5 brings you almost to the door of this café, whose smiling staff have hearts of gold. It's a non-profit set up as a social enterprise by Fresh Hope, a charity whose goal is to build community through food. Even the coffee has a conscience: it's from local roastery, Ethical Addictions. The old parquet flooring sparks nostalgia as does the bike repair outfit sharing the space.

'Bring your bike, laptop or buggy' is a mantra, so whether you need a good feed, to catch up with work or to get a puncture fixed, the School House is ready. Those on childcare detail can get some peace as there's plenty to entertain the little ones.

Breakfasts can be full or healthy (cinnamon or banana porridge) and lunch might be cheesy beans on toast or a freshly-made sandwich. The in-house baker makes a mean brownie and specials include Biscoff French toast. Wander around Pittville Park's lake or ogle the architecture in Cheltenham's Montpelier area afterwards.
