There’s been a steady stream of visitors to the Trough since it opened its doors in early 2018, all wooed by excellent food and tasteful surrounds. As it is just outside Yeovil, in the heart of farming Somerset, the team can take its pick of excellent local suppliers.

The menu is simple but artful – tuna melts, burgers and vegetable tarts – and prices reflect the high-quality ingredients. Busy but friendly staff deliver delicious food, and endless pots of tea served with adorable miniature milk urns. Every detail in the airy but intimate café has been well-thought – through, from the polished-concrete tables to the hand basins in the loos, moulded with the Trough logo.

There’s plenty of seating outside with lovely views over the fields where animals peacefully graze, good for soaking up the sunshine on fine days and even better for watching the planes on Yeovilton Air Day. Don’t forget to pick up nibbles for your onward journey from the deli fridge in the farm shop.
