Like many village ale houses, it was nearly curtains for The Green Man in 2015. At least, it was until Leanne and Phil stepped in to give it a breath of new life. They’ve since ploughed energy into the food offering and turned it into a community asset: tea room and drinking hole by day, excellent eatery from breakfast till dinner.
Posies of flowers decorate the tables and there’s a crackling log burner to warm yourself by on crisp days. As for the food, it’s true to its pub roots, with all the classics well represented (crispy fish and chips, sausage and mash in a Yorkshire pudding) , but run alongside exotic specials such as game, crocodile steak and seafood, so there’s something to suit every taste. Afternoon teas are served on miniature picnic benches, which you can have at a full-sized version in the grassy garden if the weather allows.
Whether you’re a foodie or ale swiller, this is a cracking village pub.
