A12

For those heading for the Suffolk coast, Friday Street Farm Shop has to be one of your grocers of choice. Three generations of the Blyth family have been connecting customers to crops from this corner of their arable farm since the 1970s. Behind the salmon-pink façade shelves are loaded with produce grown on the farm or nearby (from almost 100 different producers), alongside butchery and fish counters and a sterling selection of gifts. If any kids are misbehaving, the promise of Friday’s Mess – an Eton Mess inspired ice cream with the farm’s raspberries and meringue pieces – should buy you some peace.

The café is over the yard in a separate building and adopts the same sourcing policy (the closer the better) to make dishes that a farmer’s wife would be proud of: think oozing cottage pies, meatballs and mash, baked salmon and spinach, white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake.

The farm has become a little complex of enterprise, so the curious should follow the signs for ‘Weird Stuff’ and ‘Cool Junk’.
