Diversification is key for today’s farmers to survive, which has given the UK a wave of wonderful farm shops and accommodation options to enjoy. Rich – aka Dickie – took a slightly different tack when seeking to make a success of the family beef farm, training as a butcher and setting up an artisan butchery in the garage.

He quickly gained a reputation for the best steak in the area and set up tables in tents alongside to cook
up breakfast storms. The rest is history, and it’s hard not to enthuse about this truly authentic version of farm dining.

The Cow Shed was built from reclaimed materials found on the farm and is warmed by a roaring fire at one end. Service is super friendly and unpretentious, and the atmosphere lively with tables full of people enjoying juicy roasts, enormous breakfasts and aged steaks. It’s very popular so book ahead if you don’t want to miss out.
