You’d be forgiven for thinking the blue-framed windows, handsome front door and low ceilings of no6hundred look more like a house than a cafe: owner Donna started the café in the cosy, wood-burner warmed room at the front and has steadily colonised more and more of the house. The bright room at the back overlooking the garden was once her living room.
These days it’s a well-liked spot for generous breakfasts, filling lunches (the veggie flatbreads with homemade coleslaw are a favourite) and – the pièce de résistance – tiers of afternoon tea. The cakes
are real crowd-pleasers and flavour combinations novel: blueberry and coconut, apple and cinnamon. A series of interconnecting and beautifully decorated rooms – flower twisted pillars and oversized toy soldiers – mean there are plenty of nooks you can grab for a restorative coffee and bite to eat.
A good range of greetings cards and trinkets are scattered about the place to whet your appetite for
the gift room upstairs, and the tastefully selected range will be your saviour if you’ve forgotten to pick
up a present.
