M4

It’s a short spin down the B4489 to reach this neighbourhood café at the edge of Swansea, and worth every drop of fuel.

An enormous painted mural, rustic wooden sign and large window onto the street sets the tone for the quirky, hip interior, where bare brick walls intermingle with vintage trunks, chipboard panels, coffee bean sacks and slouchy Chesterfields. It takes the name Haystack from co-owner Beth’s farming connections, and all the wood inside has been reclaimed from the family farm, right down to the tables made from old fence posts.

Coffee is a speciality, expertly made using Coaltown beans roasted down the road in Ammanford. Be tempted by one of the incredible cakes in the stack on the counter (baked in the new bakery upstairs)
or order from the menu, made fresh in the kitchen according to family tradition: dippy eggs, full cooked breakfast, bacon caesar salad or a veggie special with homemade hash browns.

There’s a large car park alongside and secret garden out the back. Wonderful.
