Carmarthen is a convenient staging post if you’re heading to West Wales or on to Ireland via the ferry, and Tea Traders Tea Shop is an ideal place to stop for a tasty snack. It was founded by Paul and Nick
who both worked in special needs teaching before deciding to branch out – but true to their roots they offer employment and training opportunities in the cafe to adults with learning difficulties.
Service is friendly and you can choose from a wall of loose-leaf teas. The range is impressive, though we’d recommend the house blend with a slice of one of the excellent cakes.
For authentic souvenirs and Welsh crafts, look no further than the shelves, which are filled with carefully selected objects, from ceramic figures in traditional dress to Welsh language prints. And don’t forget to take a peek downstairs, an old bank vault, at the mini art gallery, which hosts a revolving selection of local artists.
The street itself is pedestrianised but there’s plenty of parking at John Street car park a short stroll away.
