Tori and Ben’s farm shop is a triumph of the field-to-fork philosophy and is set on the family’s farm just outside Melbourne: Ben takes charge of the Longhorn cattle and Tori the Jacob sheep. The meat from these compassionately reared animals is sold in the farm shop and the knowledgeable butcher can practically name the animal it comes from, happily advising on the best cut. Look out for the informative butchery workshop if you’re keen to absorb some expertise.
As well as the farm’s own excellent meats, you’ll find free-range pork and chicken from nearby Packington (chosen for its shared ethics), and you can raid the shelves for local vegetables, bread and a delicious selection of salads, also available to take away.
Seating is outside in the the shelter of the marquee, with heaters and a crate of blankets for cooler days. Benches and vintage chairs are clustered round tables and flung with pelts from the farm (also available for sale in the shop). Kids will love the mud kitchens, sand pit and ride-on tractors with mini hay bales in the play area, which frees adults up to savour one of the peerless bacon butties.
