It’s a quick dash down Lincolnshire’s A15 to Uncle Henry’s, a superior farm shop, butchery and café set on the Ward family’s arable and pig farm.
Run the gauntlet of enviable gifts and homewares in the shops to reach the café, which draws many of its ingredients from the farm or other producers nearby. You’ll find award-winning sausages (made from their own home-reared pork) on the breakfast menu and homemade quiches, soups and ciabattas on the lunch menu (though it’s cake and drinks only for the last half hour of café service). In summer, grab a table in the inner courtyard to cool down by the fountain.
You can pick up just about anything you need in the shop for your onward journey – all produce coming from the same range of local suppliers that feed the kitchen. The deli counter has bountiful car snacks, while the butchery has your BBQ covered.
Kids making a nuisance of themselves in the car can burn off energy in the outdoor play area, which has a sand pit, pedal tractor track and climbing frame. If the family is feeling restless, explore the farm trail where you can see Shire horses (Hattie particularly enjoys attention) and the pond. (Free maps available in shop.)
