A46

This rustic, family-run café is surrounded by the flowers of Russell’s Garden Centre on the edge of Coventry. Its modest size belies a hefty foodie punch: it's just scooped the 'Independent Garden Centre Caterer of the Year' award. Its six acres sprawl along the river Sowe with a Secret Quarry Garden, a Spooky Hedge Maze and a Wildflower Meadow to marvel at.

The smiling team has breakfast and light lunches covered, including plant-based delights aplenty. Expect generous hunks of cake plus homemade sausage rolls, savouries and soups du jour from the creative kitchen. The surrounds are quirky and wonderful: sit in the luminous conservatory to make the most of the blooms nearby, or lounge beneath a garden parasol in summer. Coffee is barista-styled and loose-leaf teas abound.

Kids will love the board games and community miniature railway, adults may lose themselves wildlife watching or browsing the award-winning nurseries. Doggies get treats.
