England hadn’t had a whisky distillery for more than 100 years when St George’s opened its doors in 2007, but peaty Norfolk is surely the right place for a renaissance. Aficionados can take the tour, inspect the stills and explore the whisky emporium, which features a huge selection of whiskies.
The whisky varieties are created with locally sourced barley and water from the Brecklands aquifer, which runs beneath the distillery. Choose whiskies from their core expressions such as ‘The English’ or from their range of ‘The Norfolk’ whiskies and liqueurs.
The venue’s new restaurant opens soon (please check online for up-to-date information). In the meantime, fascinating whisky tours and experiences - booking required - and the well-stocked shop await. Gift items include boxed bottles, cased collections and high-class glassware.
Don’t let the talk of spirits put families off – children are welcome and can play nearby on the lawn while you browse.
