There’s a wonderful homely feel to The Boars with its vintage furniture, posies of flowers on the table and Jenny’s warm welcome at the front. Simon cooks up a storm in the kitchen. He’s a self-taught chef, but you wouldn’t know it from the imaginative dishes that emerge: Italian coppa (a cold pork cut), Catalan cod, katsu curry, croque champignon are just some of his triumphs.
The pair took over in early 2019 and have been taking the pub from strength-to-strength, adding supper clubs and a hearty breakfast menu, which takes full advantage of their local network of suppliers. The coffee is smooth, so it’s worth diving off the A11 for a pick-me-up, even if you’re not eating.
When the weather allows, enjoy your meal al fresco at one of the beautifully laid tables on the lawn in the walled garden. Magical.
