The Horsell Common meadows and wetlands are an enormously popular spot with dog walkers, whether striding over the boardwalks or throwing sticks for their charges in the river.
Set among the reeds is the equally popular Heather Farm Café, which opens with the larks to warm the early morning walkers with piping hot tea and hearty breakfasts. The sunny yellow walls, farmhouse kitchen style and Amy’s cheery team welcome visitors in, and staff won’t bat an eye at muddy paws and damp coats. Blankets are provided on the terrace next to the chunky benches to stave off the chill on crisp days.
Grab a pew inside or out to fill up on healthy bowls of porridge, warm waffles, giant Yorkshire puddings and varied salads: check the chalkboard behind the counter for specials. Dogs are indulged with special pet ice creams and a jar of treats, and little people will be kept occupied for a while with the colouring crayons and paper.
