It may look small, but beyond the smart, awning’d frontage stretches a wonderland of lovely food. The café is a long-held dream for owner Gillian, and a tribute to her granny’s healthfood shop – also called Granary – where she used to help after school. Today, Gillian funnels the same passion for tasty, well-balanced dishes into her menus.
Breakfast might be baked eggs with garlic mushrooms or homemade pancakes with crispy bacon (from celebrated Fife butcher Puddledub) and maple syrup; lunch on a loaded Buddha bowl or ciabatta with beetroot hummus, pear and avocado. Mouthwatering pastries sit on the counter to tempt you if you’re just flying by for coffee.
Free parking is available a short walk away. Take a detour on the way back to your car and stroll around the bank of the small loch and take in the views of the magnificent ruins of Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots. If you’re passing in summer, you might be lucky enough to catch the thundering hooves of the annual jousting tournament.
