Set on the edge of the Earl of Plymouth’s estate and supplied by its farms and fields, the Ludlow Farmshop (formerly Food Centre) is a microcosm of the foodie hub that is Ludlow. They are passionate about local food here and more than half of what they sell is grown, reared or made on the farm, including rare-breed Gloucester Old Spot pork, wild venison and cheese and ice cream made from the farm’s own milk.
Park up and head to the café for delicious dishes which use as much of the farm’s produce as possible, from hand-churned butter to freshly baked pastries. Breakfast on the house granola with the farm’s yoghurt and honey; salads, burgers and well-filled sandwiches are on the lunchtime menu.
Raid the food hall for farm-made cheese and jams, freshly roasted coffee and snacks, then take a moment to soak up the scenery in the free picnic area. There’s a respectable play area (with ice cream cabin in summer) where kids can monkey around and tire themselves out ready for a car nap. Winner.
