Music hums gently but otherwise the only sounds here are the rush of wind through the corn and birds twittering in the trees. Masquerading as a potting shed, White Post Café stands quietly in the heart of a plant nursery with views over to the Blackdown Hills. If the M5 has your nerves jangling there are few better places to unwind.

The menu changes every fortnight or so, reflecting what’s in season and includes in house pickles and ferments. You might breakfast on coconut french toast and granola with yoghurt and roasted fruit or lunch on dishes such as summer curry with griddled courgette, lime and fresh coconut chutney or a pea, ricotta and mint tart and salads. You can order small and sharing plates too. Cakes are made every morning and are complimented with locally roasted coffee or loose leaf teas. The café itself and its beautiful garden are designed for tarrying. Eclectic cooking books, design led magazines and inviting chairs near the stylish wood burning stove help you to while away time. Don’t blame us if you’re late home.
