It’s all about the views at Three Choirs Vineyard, which is frequently likened to the Napa Valley. From the brasserie terrace you’re bathed in bird song and transported to the vineyards of hotter climes. Vines spool down the hillside, bordered in the distance by the Malvern Hills, Cotswolds and Black Mountains, which give the vineyard its unique microclimate.
Homely and informal, the brasserie is relaxed and welcoming with beamed ceiling, and colourful chandeliers made of recycled glasses and decanters. As stops go, it’s tremendous: different to a pub, more than a café but not as formal as a restaurant. Ease yourself onto a fireside sofa and revive yourself with a rich coffee, or park yourself at a table for food. The charcuterie, featuring wild boar salami from neighbouring Forest of Dean and pressing of duck, fig and quince is sensational as is the local cheese platter; burgers and hearty soups are always on the menu.
Take time to walk the footpaths that lace the vineyard before you go, or take a tour and pick up a bottle in the shop to uncork at your destination.
