Within spitting distance of the A11 is the Lime Kiln Kitchen. If weather permits, head out to the deck overlooking the reed beds and Kilverstone Estate – you’ll feel like you’re in a nature reserve. Inside, the decor is eclectic and there’s plenty of seating and a wood-burner for colder days; dogs are treated to their own area with water, biscuits and even a bed if needed.
A wide menu serves breakfast (including pancakes!), a huge array of sandwiches, salads and daily specials such as hand-battered fish and chips. There’s a lavish afternoon tea and the scones are particularly highly regarded, often with a weekly feature such as iced coffee and walnut. Children have their own menu and there’s a wide range of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan dishes including cake, so everyone will be happy. Everything is freshly made and the service is excellent.
Don’t miss an opportunity to feed the koi in the pond – or send the kids off to feed them while you relax over coffee and discuss how many plants you can fit in the car.
