There’s no more idyllic location for a pit-stop. Haldon Forest offers spectacular views across the glorious Devonshire countryside with Dartmoor to the west and the Exe Estuary to the east.
The Ridge Cafe is quaint and calming. Décor is wood-heavy (to reflect its surroundings), rustic and charming. There’s enough outdoor seating to catch some rays, and as Haldon is high above sea-level, a light dusting of snow can be seen on crisp winter mornings.
Options for lunch change regularly and include fresh salmon salad, proper cheesy nachos and pork and apple sauce rolls. Home-baked cakes are likely to tempt you, alongside the amazing flapjacks and brownies. The coffee is second to none and service always with a smile. The forest paths are buzzing with energy: this a renowned spot for cycling and a regular haunt for four-legged friends. If you’re lucky you may spot the elusive green woodpecker.
