Don’t be put off by its location on an industrial estate. The Milk Shed is one of the best cafés in Oxfordshire. One customer said the ice creams alone are worth a visit, and we agree. They’re made on site by Lucie and Dan using only natural ingredients: vanilla pods, lumps of fudge, meringues and mashed-up bananas. Try the grown-up banana split if you want a taste of the divine, or douse a ball of vanilla in locally roasted coffee for a supreme affogato pick-me-up.
The rest of the menu is simple and expertly executed with fine ingredients. People rave about the scrambled eggs on toast, club sandwiches, generous salad bowls and cheese and bean toasties. Lucie indulges her love of cooking in preparing the daily specials, such as smoked haddock chowder or pulled lamb salad with freekeh, garlic yoghurt and pomegranate.
If you’re wooed by the flavours, you can fill the car with snacks from the deli counter, from homemade tarts to cured meats and olives.
