M6

The flat whites at The Hall, an inauspicious looking 1930’s Art Deco parish hall, have been voted the best in the UK. The secret to their success lies next door in the coffee roasters and tea merchants, known as Atkinsons, who have been trading here since 1837. It is steeped in tea and coffee history, with many artefacts, like canisters and scales, still in daily use. The old roaster in the window still puffs out its white smoke heralding every batch of freshly-roasted coffee. The smell alone on entering the shop is worth a visit. Behind the scenes the operation is a hotbed of innovation.

That same blend of heritage and innovation is evident in the café, where the materials palette is all stripped back maple and furniture constructed of upcycled coffee paraphernalia. This is a café run by coffee roasters who really know what they’re doing and love to share their passion with their customers. Enjoy cake made daily in-house by The Bakery, sourdough sandwiches and live music on Saturdays. Worth going the extra mile for...
