A49

The Green Dragon bustles with customers day round, a sure sign that Jay brothers Adam and Jonathan at the helm are getting it right.

It stands at the roadside in the border town of Little Stretton. Whitewashed and climbing with ivy on the outside, inside it’s smart and well-kept without losing the village pub vibe: terracotta floor tiles, horse brass by the fire and dried hops above the bar. Polite, smiling staff deliver a regular stream of excellent plates to tables. Mushroom and paprika stroganoff, duck breast with black pudding, and steak and blue cheese melt are just some of the flavourful dishes you can expect, and there’s a dedicated menu for vegans.

In good weather, you can sit in the shade of a parasol in the garden, where kids can keep themselves out of mischief on the sturdy climbing frame. If you’ve time before you head on your way, hike up to the top of Long Mynd for uplifting views over Shropshire. Breathtaking.
