Spectacular views and a counter laden with homemade food make Soutra a special place to stop. Take a table on the terrace or at one of the enormous windows to drink in the expansive tableau of hills that rolls into the distance. In one direction you can see across the Firth of Forth; another looks towards the Bass Rock in the North Sea.
Soutra has a solid reputation for great, homemade food and warm hospitality. Their bacon rolls can come with a slice of haggis; sandwiches are hearty; soups are freshly made in the kitchen (and come with a cheese scone); and the cakes are reassuringly indulgent. The Inverarnie Toastie is particularly good.
Parking is plentiful and Soutra caters really well for gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan diets. If you fancy a longer stop, stretch your legs in the Lammermuir Hills or visit the medieval hospital at Soutra Aisle before heading on your way.
